List of townships compiled in preparation for sale of land under Graduation act of 1854, November 1854.

List prepared to enable execution of federal Graduation act of 1854 contains legal description by township and range and dates on which tracts in township became subject to private entry. Tracts which were exempt from act are so noted (i.e., tracts lying within six miles of Illinois Central Railroad and tracts declared to be mineral lands). Those tracts not offered because they were odd numbered sections within Illinois and Michigan Canal reservation also are indicated.

The Northwestern Land District Office was created at Galena by Congressional act of Juen 26, 1834. District was composed of land which formerly had been part of Quincy District lying north of the line separating townships twelve and thirteen north of baseline for fourth principal meridian, as well as small part of Danville District.
